Julio Cesar was brilliant in the derby, as usual. His presence was crucial, even when Rizzoli deemed him “guilty” of a foul on Boateng, which brought the score to 1-1. The Nerazzurri goalkeeper spoke to Inter Channel:

“I was a bit angry. Very angry, because it wasn’t the first time it had happened with Rizzoli; years ago at Napoli he called a penalty against me, although I had completely played the ball. I saved the kick and he said to me, ‘See there? At least I made you look good.’ Today the same thing happened, and so I asked him if he has some kind of grudge against me. Now I’ll miss out on the Lazio game because I was already on a yellow. But I think it was a great match. It was fully deserved victory and a special match because it was my 300th, and also because we won. Therefore I’m going home happy… and on foot.”

Andrea Stramaccioni can smile at the end of his first derby as Inter‘s first-team coach. He explained to Sky Sport Italia:

”I don’t know if I’m a man for the derby but we won. That I do know…”For us this game was important and spectacular. The first half was perfect, and then there were a few incidents. There was bitterness after the penalty awarded to AC Milan, but I had to set the players back on the winning path that we had started on. The team showed a great reaction after Ibrahimovic’s goal. We can talk about things that didn’t go well, like the three-minute spell in Parma, but I want to look at the positive side. Since I’ve been here we’ve earned more points than AC Milan. The comments by president Moratti? I’m happy to hear them but I’m sorry – as an Interista – that no one points out that the president’s ideas and plans are very clear. They go beyond this one match and don’t depend on whether I’m here or not.”

A Diego Milito hat-trick helped lead Inter to a 4-2 win in the Derby della Madonnina Sunday, a result that ended AC Milan‘s title hopes.

Maicon added a stunning fourth for Inter, who now have it all to play for against Lazio on the final day of the season next week with just three points separating them from Udinese in third place.

Inter were on the back foot early as Milan created the first chance when Zlatan Ibrahimovic somehow touched the ball over the crossbar from five yards out when it seemed easier to hit the target.

Ivan Cordoba announces Inter departure

by David on May 6, 2012

Inter defender Ivan Cordoba has said that he is leaving the club in the summer. The Inter veteran has been considering retirement for some time, although he did not confirm whether he would move on elsewhere.

“Dear fans, tomorrow on the occasion of the derby it will be my last game as a player at San Siro,” wrote Cordoba on the official club website.

“I chose to tell you this after talking with President Massimo Moratti, the directors and the Coach.

Good interview with Diego Milito in Friday’s La Gazzetta dello Sport where he spoke about the derby, where he will be playing next season and playing for Stramaccioni.

Here are some of the highlights:

On a top three finish

“Until we are mathematically ruled out we’ll fight on. We want to win these two matches. We know it won’t be easy because there are teams ahead of us and it doesn’t depend solely on us any more.”

Dejan Stankovic Set For Surgery

by David on May 4, 2012

Inter were dealt a big blow ahead of the derby with the news that Dejan Stankovic will miss the last two league games of the season.

A statement on the Inter web site said that Stankovic requires surgery on his Achilles tendon, thus ruling him out of Sunday’s Milan derby and next week’s trip to Rome to take on Lazio.

However, it was not disclosed just how long Stankovic, who has made 19 appearances for Inter this season, will be out of action for.

Andrea Stramaccioni was never going to be happy after tonight’s result. The last thing he wanted – or expected – just as things were getting interesting was to lose this game. Looking back on the match, he told Sky Sport Italia,

“I’d rather talk about a three-minute blackout for Inter as a whole than individual errors. Those three minutes cost us dear but they take nothing away from all the good things we’re doing. Even when we were trailing we managed to carve out three chances. We’re very angry with ourselves because we did well in the first half, but as I said I don’t want to talk about individual mistakes – if anything we can talk about team mistakes. We shot ourselves in the foot when we were on top, but you have to give credit to Parma too.”

Unless their is a miracle, there will be no Champions League football for Inter fans to look forward to next season. The best that Inter players and fans can look forward too is the Europa League.

Inter’s Champions League dream ended with a 3-1 defeat away to Parma, a game that Inter led 1-0 at half-time. With two games to go Inter trail both Napoli and Udinese by three points, and both teams have a far superior goal difference than Inter.

The Hunt for Champions League Football

by Michael Moschetto on May 2, 2012

As we advance into the last month of the Serie A season, the race for the final Champions League spot is up for grabs by at least four different clubs. Juventus and AC Milan are currently dueling for the Scudetto, amassing 77 and 74 points respectively. After those two clubs, third through sixth place is separated by a mere three points after Napoli’s 2-0 victory over Palermo today:

  • Napoli: 58 points, 2 games remaining, +21 goal difference
  • Udinese: 55 points, 3 games remaining, +12 goal difference
  • Inter: 55 points, 3 games remaining, +5 goal difference

Stramaccioni: “A tough run-in…”

by David on May 2, 2012

What team will Andrea Stramaccioni put out against Parma? Tuesday’s press conference took place before the team’s final training session so the coach couldn’t give any definitive answers.

“Julio Cesar did everything possible to try and make the Cesena game but in the end we decided not to risk him because, as I’ve already explained, we have to look after the players’ overall health. Samuel is without doubt one of those who has looked best in training recently but – for him and the others – we’ll weigh everything up carefully at the last minute; not because we have the derby coming up on Sunday but because after the derby there’s another game.”
