Balotelli to The Rescue

by Philip Mboya on February 11, 2010

Controversial teen striker Mario “supermario” Balotelli came off the bench to net the equaliser that extended Inter‘s lead at the top of the Serie A table to 9 points.

Inter were away to Parma at the Enio Tardini stadium and it was danger man Valeri Bojinov who put the home side ahead in the 54th minute. However, Balotelli who had only come on just minutes earlier levelled 5 minutes later when Parma failed to clear a corner and the ball fell right on queue for Mario to finish. Parma’s goal  came about in quite the same fashion as Inter also failed to clear corner that resulted in their short 5 minute lead.

This was a match of  great importance as former Parma man McDonald Mariga made a return to the stadium that he called home for the past  2 years. Mariga came on as a sub in the 68th minute for Samuel Eto’o and it was the first match in which played more than 15 minutes.

Inter are still on course for the scudetto despite dropping 2 points last night. That’s the advantage one gets when you lead the league with a huge margin. However, Inter’s true test is just a couple of days away. The Nerazzurri prepare to take on EPL high flyers Chelsea in a 2 legged knockout fixture that will be among one of the mouth watering Anglo- Italian fixtures. My bet is Inter going through on a slender margin.
