Big Win Late For Inter

by David on November 27, 2011

A 90th minute goal from Luc Castaignos gave Inter  a huge win at Siena today. It looked like the match was heading to a drab draw when Motta threaded a great ball to Castaignos who fired the ball into the bottom of the net.

Make no mistake, Inter did not play well today. But that is often the case the weekend after a Champions League match. What is important to note is that Inter are now unbeaten in their last four games, which is their best run of form all season. And for those wondering whether hiring Claudio Rannieri was the right move, consider that since he took over 12 games ago Inter have W7, D2, L3.

A couple of impressions from watching the game. Walter Samuel looks like he has lost a yard of speed since his knee injury. It might be that it takes him some time to recover but I thought he looked slow today. Ranieri went with Nagatomo at right back and Zanetti and left back and it seemed that all the Siena attacks, especially in the second half came down the Inter right. At least twice Zanetti had to make terrific clearances from crosses that came in from Inter’s right.

For all the play that Siena had, especially in the first 20 minutes of the second half, I cannot recall Julio Cesar having to make a difficult save. Inter’s defence has looked leaky at times this season, but I thought they played better today.

Give credit to Ranieri for going for the victory. He brought Castaignos on at half-time and then brought on Milito with 10 minutes to go. On the Inter goal, when Motta played the ball in, Castaignos and Pazzini were together and the Siena defenders did not know who to mark, and that confusion created the space that Castaignos needed.

Winning ugly is a trait that Inter used to its advantage two seasons ago, and it was good to see them get back to that today. It gives the players confidence that they don’t need to be at their best to win every week.

What did you think of the Inter performance and win today?

Inter had two-thirds of possesion in the game. If we could have someone on the pitch that could score we would’ve won by a lot more. Hopefully Sneijder and Forlan come back healthy and that we can get a scorer like Tevez or Morais Welliton in January.

Welliton sounds good to me. It’s time to sell muntari, cordoba, and chivu. Buy the brasilian defender Juan and let a youth player like caldirola get some time in. I also think inter could sell pandev or maybe milito to make room and raise funds for welliton. I feel like tevez could be too much drama although he is good. Hopefully inter can get some of the injured back fit soon and keep up the good run inter has going for them. I’m happy to see the youth playing like Alvarez, castaignos, and obi. I don’t know what happened to coutinho but he needs to keep getting time.

this team is great but should be more defensive, defence should be more stronger specialy 2nd half of any game. old members of team should be replaced with fresh blood. November 28, 2011 at 9:59 am

Unfortunatly, inter not showing to contract with good scorer as Milan is catching Tevez!!!!

Would be a big blow to see Tevez to go to a rival like Milan as that gives them an explosive forward line
