Former Inter Star Adriano Doing Good In Brazil

by Philip Mboya on November 11, 2009

Inter coach Jose Mourinho must be reeling whenever he hears how well his former star player Adriano is perfoming for his new club Flamengo. Adriano returned to the club in which he started his career after spending an on and off 8 year spell with the nerazzurri.

Many fans must be wondering just where the whole plan started to go wrong. In December 2008, Inter granted Adriano special prmission to return to Brazil for the winter break earlier than planned. And on April 4th of this year, the club announced that the striker had not returned from internaional duty. On the 24th of the same month, the muscular striker finally rescinded his contract with the club.

Adriano had a total of 48 goals in 123 apperances for Inter. Compare that with his 18 goals in 27 appearances for flamengo in just a couple of months and you can see just why Mourinho is not a happy man. I personally feel Inter Milan football club lost one of their most gifted strikers who left them high and dry without any explanation whatsoever at a time when he was needed the most.

Strikers of Adriano’s  calibre are hard to find let alone sign. His national record is also pretty good, having scored 27 goals in 47 appearances for Brazil. The beginning of Adriano’s problems at Inter started with the death of his father and his subsequent turn to alcohol. This got so bad at one point that club president Massimo Morratti had to send him on unpaid leave to his native Brazil twice.

Adriano confessed to feeling alone and depressed and that he could only find happiness in drinking wine ,vodka, whisky and lots of beer. Things however seem to be working out for him in Brazil as he has regained his form and there is a very big possibility that he could return to the national team in time for the FIFA World Cup.
