City rivals Inter Milan and AC Milan were in European action this week and yet only one prevailed. Milan who recently have been struggling in the Serie A managed to cause one of the biggest upsets of match night 3.
They beat Real Madrid 3-2 in the Bernebeu to take them top of group c. This was not just another match. No, it was probably one of the biggest games of the season. Real Madrid are nine-times European champions while Milan are just 2 short of that record.
This victory was definitely a boost for Leonardo and his team and it gave Milan hope of at least providing the ‘big guns’ with a healthy dose of competition. My worry however is of fellow City Rivals Inter Milan. When it comes to European football, Inter are currently experiencing a drought like they have never before.
Their last victory in this competition came exactly one year ago. Although Inter play good football while at home, they just have not seemed to create a wining formula in Europe. I would suggest (although it may never happen) that these two teams form a relationship of convenience.
As much as they not like each other, they need each. They are like siamese twins. Inter have a good strategy for the Serie A while Milan are just amazing in Europe. If these two sides can put away their differences just for this season then each might get what they are seeking.
Mourinho should be a little bit worried because another season without any Success in Europe and his job might very well be on the line. However, there is still time at least for the nerazzuri to hush their doubters.
