Inter Drawes With Sampdoria

by David on February 20, 2010

Another Inter Milan game and another draw. Inter drew 0-0 against Sampdoria on Saturday night, but I consider it a point gained and not two points dropped and Inter played the entire second half with nine men after defenders Walter Samuel and Ivan Cordoba had been sent off.

Sampdoria failed to capitalize on its numerical advantage though and finished the game with 10 players after striker Giampaolo Pazzini earned his second yellow card midway through the second half.

Samuel Eto’o had the best chance of the match late in the second half, but despite being one on one with the Sampdoria goalkeeper, Eto’o who has had a disappointing first season with Inter, failed to find the net.

The draw leaves Inter on 55 points at the top of the Serie A standings, eight ahead of AS Roma in second place, which was playing Catania on Sunday. Sampdoria moves into fourth place with 40 points.

In the earlier match Robert Acquafresca scored twice and Rodrigo Palacio once to give Genoa a 3-0 win over Udinese that moves Genoa up to seventh in the standings.

“It was a great chance for Eto’o at the end,” the Sampdoria goalkeeper said. “It was important I stopped it as it meant we could leave the San Siro with a point. After Giampaolo Pazzini was sent off it meant we weren’t able to take the initiative as much,” Storari said. “We moved the ball a bit slowly and weren’t able to attack and take advantage.”

Samuel was given a straight red for pulling down Pozzi, when Samuel was the last man. No dispute there. The Cordoba red card was for two yellows and the first one was really weak. From a Sampdoria  freekick Cordoba was booked for encroachment, which is something you never see given. The 7 minutes later he was booked for fouling Pozzi and was sent off for two yellows.

So not the ideal preparation for the midweek visit of Chelsea, who won their Premier League game this week 2-0.

What did you think of the result today? Are you worried about the Chelsea game?

The red cards were a shame. It stop Inter from playing their usual game. Having said that, Eto did miss 2 fantastic chances to win the game for Inter.

There is no one to blame but Inter players’ lack of discipline. Sneijder was sent off during his last match for clapping his hand. Now it is Cordoba’s turn to be sent off for dissent. Mou must drill discipline in their heads. I am not saying that the ref was fair. But there is no need to provide him with ammo to shoot Inter down!!!

Good points Norman. All these suspensions could come back and haunt Inter during the title run-in
