Maicon Expresses His Desire To Join Real Madrid

by Philip Mboya on June 3, 2010

Inter Milan‘s Brazilian defender Douglas Maicon is the first player to openly hint at a possible move to Real Madrid. Now this might not come as a surprise however, the Brazilian’s  statement is bound to raise a few eyebrows in Milan . Maicon was Inter‘s star defender towards the end of the 2009/2010 campaign and Mourinho is keen on bringing him to the Santiago Bernabeu for a fresh challenge.

“What I want is to play for Madrid and it would be an honour for me to be there because I have said it would be a great opportunity in my career,” Maicon told AS.

“With Manchester City I have nothing, I can assure that. I will make it very clear to prevent misunderstandings: I want to play for Madrid, I do not want to go to Manchester City.

“Moreover, I repeat that I have nothing with the English club.”

This is a statement from someone who definitely knows what he wants. Maicon was part of a rock hard Inter defense that included fellow compatriot Lucio, Walter Samuel and Cordoba and it remains to be seen how the history making Nerazzurri will cope in his absence.

Mr. Moratti now has another problem to worry about. Should he sell Maicon or keep him? Personally i think he should sell him and in the process make as much money as he possibly can. Here’s why, Maicon has already set his heart on playing in Madrid’s famous all white strip and holding onto him might not be the best choice Inter makes.

Remember Pandev’s long battle with Lazio that was eventually settled in court? Yeah, well after such an outstanding season with Inter, it would be a shame if things degenerated to such an extent for Maicon. On his possible re-union with Jose Mourinho this is what he had to say:

“Mourinho is a great coach, and I think no one can argue that. I have a great relationship with him and it would be very good for me to be at his service again,” he added.

“We won many things together and I hope to repeat that. He is one of the best coaches I have across in my life.”

inter hard-rock defense mistake
it’s part cordoba only, chivu played ’til the injury, and after he recovered he slowly took his place on left-back again
nevertheless i’m very sorry to be reading the same statement from maicon, when i see he celebrate every goal he gets, it looked like he was never going for a new challenge
