Manchester United are reported to have offered Inter £29m for midfielder Wesley Sniejder, and it doesn’t sound like Inter Milan President Massimo Moratti is looking to turn down that kind of money.
Sneijder was signed from Real Madrid for around €15 million, which turned out to be a steal. Sniejder was brilliant last season, especially in the Champions League and he was a big reason why Inter won the treble last season.
It seems that Sneijder’s agent, Soren Lerby, has scheduled talks after the World Cup to talk about extending his contract, he is currently on about £3.5m a year after tax, for another 4 season, which will take him to his 30th birthday.
But Man United are looking to scuttle those talks by making Moratti an offer he cannot refuse. The chance to double his money on a player in less than 12 months.
Moratti confirmed Man United’s interest in Sneijder saying:
“The interest from Manchester United in Sneijder is real, but I didn’t look into it in an attempt not to fall into temptation. I’m following him at the World Cup and I think I’ll do the same also at Inter for the next years. I still haven’t received a good enough offer for even one player to leave. We will see.”
I hope that Moratti can avoid temptation here. Sneijder is just entering his prime as a footballer and he would be a very hard man for Inter to replace.
