Giampaolo Pazzini was the hero as Inter beat Lille tonight and moved to top of their Champions League group.
The Inter goal was worth seeing. Wesley Sneijder sent Mauro Zárate down the left and Pazzini volleyed home Zarate’s cross.
While Inter looked comfortable for periods of the game they still needed some great saves from Júlio César who was terrific tonight. Was this Cesar’s best performance since the 2009-2010 Champions League winning season?
For maybe the first time all season I thought that Inter looked strong defensively with Lucio and Cristian Chivu particularly solid.
Some credit for Inter’s performance must go to Claudio Ranieri. Instead of setting up in a defensive 4-4-1-1 formation he went with a 4-3-1-2 and played Zarate instead of another defensive midfield player. The move played off with Zarate assisting on the Inter goal.
For all the troubles Inter have had this season, they are sitting here in mid-October top of their Champions League group. If they beat Lille at home on November 2, then Inter will be all but through to the knockout stages.
What did you think of Inter’s performance tonight?

we may still be finding our feet in the league but we are top in champions league. Back in 2006 and 2007, it was the other way round.
