If you still had any doubts about who would win the serie a then they must have vanished after watching or hearing about Inter‘s senseless thrashing of Genoa on Saturday. It’s been quite a while since we saw such a big scoreline in the Serie A and i feel that this is not only good news for Inter but also for the league.
Inter got on the score sheet just six minutes into the game thanks to Esteban Cambiasso and from then on, a flurry of attacks was to follow. Ghanaian born Italian Mario Balotelli added a second in the 31st minute before play-maker Dejan Stankovic sealed Genoa’s fate with a third goal deep into first half stoppage time.
However, this was not before Genoa’s Omar Milanetto had a goal ruled out for off-side in the 40th minute. I am quite surprised though that 5th placed Genoa did not offer Inter a healthy dose of competition. I expected the game to be very open with both teams going at each other right from kick-off. It seems like i got half of what i wished for as Inter did not disappoint in this respect.
Inter’s fourth goal came in the 66th minute from substitute Patrick Vieira who by the way might be leaving the nerazzurri at the end of the season. Four minutes later and Maicon ended Genoa’s nightmare. This win has definitely raised Inter’s morale ahead of their midweek champions league tie against Dynamo Kiev.
Inter are in grave danger of not qualifying for the second round if they fail to beat a kiev side that has a revamped Andriy Scevchenko. Shevy seems to have re-discovered his form after returning to his home country from an unsuccessful spell in England. Now, he comes back to a stadium where he had an outstanding career with Inter arch rivals AC Milan.
Inter’s win pushed them 3 points clear on top of the Serie A but second placed Sampdoria (who are playing some good football) could draw level with them if they beat Lazio. This match was also a re-union of sorts for former star player Hernan Crespo. However, Crespo who came in as a substitute could not save his club from an embarassing home defeat.
