Icardi scored 24 goals in Serie A last season for Inter to give him his most prolific ever season in the Italian top flight, although his side could only muster a seventh placed finish.
Despite issues earlier this season with a section of the club’s fans Icardi has continued to net goals for Inter, earning him the praise of the club’s new manager, Spalletti.
The new Inter boss has described the striker as a “top player” and believes any club in world football would like to have a goalscorer like Icardi in their team.
Speaking to the club’s official Twitter account Spalletti said:
“Mauro Icardi is a top player, a real fox in the box. Everyone would love a player like him up top”
Icardi led Inter with 24 goals last season as well as 8 assists and has scored 69 goals over the last three seasons. Considering how bad Inter have been during that time period, that is a really impressive number. Giving his age (24), that Inter were able to sign him for only €13 million from Sampdoria, could go down as one of the great deals in the last 20 years.
