The Nightmare Continues For Inter

by Philip Mboya on October 21, 2009

A 2-2 draw on home soil was not what Jose Mourinho had in mind when Inter took on Dynamo Kiev in the Champions league on Wednesday. After their impressive rout of Genoa over the weekend, many were confident that Inter could do the same against Kiev and probably leap frog Barca if they stumbled to Rubin kazan.

Well, as shocking as it may sound Barca did lose at home to debutants Kazan. All that was left was for Inter to beat Kiev. But that was not to be . The first goal of the night came in the 5th minute from Mikhalik thanks to  a defensive blunder. Stankovic equalised in the 35th minute.

However things seemed to be getting worse as Lucio of all people headed in the ball past his on keeper from a Kiev set-piece. Right after the re-start, Walter Samuel came to the rescue of his team-mates thanks to his extraordinary goal. Inter’s current European record is worrying.

Its a year to the day Inter last had a victory in this competition. To make matters worse, they are struggling against good sides that are not exactly the best in this competition. I wonder what will happen when they meet tougher opposition if in case they progress from the group stages. Again their current position in group f is last.

Jose knows that the fans won’t accept an early exit from this prestigious competition and he also knows just how much the club needs European success to cement its status as a giant. The two Milan sides definitely have their work cut out for them however, Inter need to transfer their Serie A form to Europe immediately.
