With the appointment of former Inter boss Roberto Mancini at Manchester City, there is bound to be speculation about what Inter players Mancini will target in the January transfer window.
Mancini’s background is in the Serie A so it makes sense that he will look for players to buy that he is familiar with. And it also makes sense that he will look to bring in some Inter Milan players as they understand his system and was of doing things.
The first Inter player linked with a move to Manchester is defender Ivan Cordoba. Sportmediaset.it claims Cordoba would fancy the idea of playing in the Premier League under the guidance of Mancini with whom he enjoys a good relationship off the pitch.
The report suggests he could leave the San Siro outfit in January to get more playing time. He has been used sparingly by Jose Mourinho this term, often as cover for injuries in defence.
Cordoba has sent a clear message to Mancini, telling him to call him.
“If he wants me at Manchester City then I would think about it very well,” he is quoted as saying onSportmediaset.it.
One player unlikely to be joing Cordoba in Manchester is Maicon, who appears to be staying at Giuseppe Meazza, according to the player’s agent. Antonio Caliendo. Caliendo said that he expects his client to stay with Inter despite interest from Manchester City.
“This doesn’t surprise me because Mancini knows Maicon like no other and together they did great things and won so much,” he told fcinternews.it. But at Inter, Maicon has excellent terms with both the team and the club. And in any case I don’t think he is a player who could move in January.”
He also revealed that the Inter rejected a big money move, in the region of €40 million (£35 million), from an unnamed club in a previous transfer window.
“€40m? I don’t establish the price, but I know that last year an offer of that amount was refused.”
I have to say that I would be surprised if Inter turned down €40 million for Maicon. Yes he is a very good player, but €40 million for a full-back is crazy money and not something that you can turn down.
