Will Inter Stars Recover In Time for Crucial Fixtures?

by Philip Mboya on October 11, 2009

Inter face a round of tricky fixtures in the next couple of days and their major worry will be to have a full squad when they take on Genoa in the Serie A and Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League.

On-fire striker Diego Milito is out for at last a month after suffering a thigh injury in their 2-1 win over Udinese. Milito who has an impressive goal tally of 5 in 7 appearances is a key part in the Inter squad and the nerazzurri will surely miss his services.

This is not the only problem occupying Mourinho’s mind. Brazilian centre-back Lucio is also yet to fully recover from a strained thigh muscle that he got in the same match. This is indeed bad news for Mourinho. Anything less than a win in the all important Group F champions league tie against Dynamo Kiev will surely leave them in a perilous position.

Everyone expects Barcelona and Inter to qualify from this group but with two Russian teams who are not backing down, we should not be surprised to see both these heavyweights being left behind (although that is a long shot). Just 3 days before taking on Kiev, Inter face a Genoa side that is currently in 5th place.

Mourinho will be keen to avoid any slip-ups in this game. He very well knows that a negative result can have a ripple effect on the Kiev fixture. He will seek to maintain the confidence of his squad . I feel, however that there is no real reason for panic at the San siro.

Why? Simply because Inter have amazing talent in the abscence of these vital players. Mercurial striker Eto’o can fill the void left by his partner perfectly and there is also Sneidjer who has a knack for scoring important goals. Jose should not worry but he should wary of other teams that are plotting his downfall.
