A post from June 24, 2010. When Inter were top of the footballing world and players like Edinson Cavani were interested in coming to Inter. Today, it is the likes of Fredy Guarín whose attention we capture.
Unfortunately instead of adding to an aging treble winning side that summer Inter president Massimo Moratti decided to mainly stay with the players that had won the season before, Rafa replaced Mourinho and and Inter have never been able to reach these heights since.
Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani is telling reporters that he does not want to move from Palermo to the Premier League, but instead wants to move to Inter.
“As a player I have two dreams: to do well at the World Cup and to wear the shirt of Inter Milan. It would be nice to stay in Italy fighting for the Scudetto and the Champions League with the Nerazzurri.”
Cavani has been impressive in the World Cup so far and he says that he would love to play for Rafa:
“Rafa Benitez? He is a coach who knows how to win and is accustomed to working at prestigious clubs. I think he is a choice in line with the ambition of Inter.”
Asked about the best position for him Cavani had this interesting answer:
“Today I am a striker who can adapt to different roles. Put it this way, I would like to become the Wayne Rooney of Inter Milan. I want to be a striker who can play many roles.”
