Inter striker Mauro Icardi has been named the Serie A Player of 2017-18, voted by his peers in the Italian Players’ Association.
The 25-year-old received the most votes from members of the AIC (Italian Players’ Association) in this evening’s Gran Gala’ del Calcio ceremony.
He was joint-Capocannoniere with 29 goals in 34 Serie A appearances, on a par with Lazio forward Ciro Immobile.
While both strikers were in the Serie A XI of 2017-18, Icardi received the most votes and took home the ultimate prize.
Icardi said that he “couldn’t have asked from anything more” from 2018:
“I am very happy with how my 2018 has gone so far. My first goal in the Champions League gave me indescribable emotions,” said the Argentine.
“I had been waiting such a long time for my first goal with the Seleccion and that came too, so I couldn’t have asked for anything more.
“It has been an unforgettable year and along with my teammates we achieved the rewards for our hard work.”
