Suning knew that the holy grail for Inter was to get back to playing in the Champions league and the financial rewards that competition brigs with it.
The Nerazzurri are in Europe’s top club competition for the first time since the 2011-12 season, and Suning are counting the millions of euros that are flowing into the club after two wins from their two matches against Tottenham Hotspur and PSV.
According to figures from Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter earned €38.9m just be participating in the group stages.
Added to that is €2.7m for each of their wins, while qualification for the Last 16 would guarantee at least €9.5m.
In addition, the Nerazzurri’s five home games so far have yielded around €10m, with €3.5m of that coming from the game against Spurs in the Champions League.
To put that €3.5m from the Spurs match in perspective, Inter earn about €1.63m from a home match in Serie A. The Spurs match brought in double that amoount.
So far this season Inter have brought in around €54m, a figure which is set to climb even further as the home matches against Milan and Barcelona have already sold out.
The money already generated represents about 20 per cent of the total revenue they made last season.
