Interesting stuff in Tuttosport about Inter’s strategy for the upcoming mercato.
Suning have been in Milan all week and Steven Zhang and Liu Jun have been meeting with Piero Ausilio, Giovanni Gardini, Stefano Pioli and Massimo Moratti.
While Zhang Jindong was quoted yesterday as saying:
“We want to make this club even stronger and we are intent on doing things in a big way.”
“Especially next year when Financial Fair Play will not stop us anymore.”
Next year begins in July, but before then Inter need to balance their books for this season and according to Tuttosport the Nerazzurri need to raise €40m before the end of the fiscal year which is June.
The quickest way to raise funds is sell players in January. The likes of Jonathan Biabiany, Davide Santon, Felipe Melo, Assane Gnoukouri and Stevan Jovetic are on Inter’s sell list, but they are not generating anywhere close to €40m.
A second option is to sell a big name player like Marcelo Brozovic, Geoffrey Kondogbia or Éver Banega. The first two would generate the biggest fees, but since Banega was signed on a Bosman this summer, his transfer would count as pure profit.
The third option is that Suning sign a new big money sponsorship deal, probably with another Chinese company, which is how PSG got around their FFP restrictions a couple of seasons ago.
