Inter are set to reward Ashley Young with a one-year contract extension following the defender’s impressive form since arriving from Manchester United in January.
That Inter targeted the former England international in January shocked many fans, but Young made a strong statt to life in Serie A with one goal and two assists in five Serie A matches.
The ex-Mn United skipper was signed on an initial six-month deal but has seemingly convinced Antonio Conte that he deserves an extended stay at the San Siro.
And according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are on the brink of handing Young a further season in Italy.
Young reunited with former Manchester United team-mates Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in Italy.
But Sanchez has struggled, finding the back of the net just once in 15 matches and it looks increasingly likely he will be heading back to Old Trafford this summer.
Last month, Young admitted it doesn’t feel strange at all that he now plays for Inter Milan instead of Manchester United – and is loving life in Italy.
The converted wing-back played the 90 minutes of last month’s Milan derby, in which his side staged a thrilling 4-2 comeback after falling two goals behind.
Speaking after that clash, he said:
“It’s not strange at all. I wanted a new challenge and I’ve got a new challenge and I’m loving every minute of my time out here.
“It was an incredible feeling (to beat AC Milan). You could see the way we celebrated after the game showed the character and strength we’ve got.
“To go 2-0 down in a derby like that then come back and win, that shows our character.
“It was an unbelievable experience.
“I came here to play football and win games, and when you come and win in the Milan derby in the way we did, it’s just an incredible feeling.
“I don’t think it gets any better than that.”
Young has been impressive since arriving at Inter. Do you think this is a good move by the club?
