Now that we know Inter’s Champions League opponents, the big question is when will Lionel Messi and Harry Kane be visiting the Giuseppe Meazza?
Those dates have been released and Inter kick off their return to the Champions League with a home match against Tottenham Hotspur on 18 September. It is between Inter and Spurs for second place in the group and Luciano Spalletti will have the opportunity to rest key players ahead of the Spurs match as Inter play Parma at home the weekend before.
Then two weeks later Inter travel to Holland to play PSV. Similar to the Spurs game, Inter play Cagliari at home the weekend before, and some Inter fans will be dreaming of six points from the opening two Champions League matches.
Then it gets a lot tougher for Inter as play Barcelona away at the Camp Nou on 24 October, before the return fixture in Milan on the 6 November. Leading into the trip to Spain is a Milan derby and then sandwiched in between these two matches against the La Liga champions are Serie A battles against Lazio and Genoa.
If that is not tough enough, Inter’s season could come down to a four match stretch from 28 November to 11 December where they will meet Spurs in London, Roma away, Juventus away and PSV at home.
The back half of the schedule is so tough that it is imperative that Inter get off to a good start in the group stages. They will need to pick up maximum points from their opening two matches to have any chance of progressing to the knockout stages.
