Romelu Lukaku has hit back at claims he could miss Inter’s opening game of the season because he is overweight by posting a image of himself without a shirt.
Reports claimed he is carrying too much excess weight which led to Lukaku posting a picture of his muscular torso along with the caption: ‘
Not bad for a fat boy’.
Lukaku completed his record breaking move from Manchester United earlier this month but according to reports, Inter fans could be made to wait a little while longer to see their club-record signing make his debut.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Lukaku arrived at the San Siro overweight and out of shape due to missing most of United’s pre-season preparations.
The Italian news outlet claim that the Belgium international is currently 104kg while Inter want him to be below 100kg.
The 26-year-old is aware of the situation and has been training in his days off to shed the pounds.
Following his move, Lukaku aimed a dig at United’s training regime by claiming that training in Italy was ‘real work’.
‘It’s hard – it’s different’ Lukaku said. ‘In England, it’s a lot of work. But over here, it’s real work.’
The striker went on to joke that his diet at Inter is now merely salad.
I didn’t come here to live,’ he added. ‘I came here to help the team achieve something.’
With Lukaku likely to miss the first game of the season, Inter will partner 17-year-old Sebastiano Esposito with Lautaro Martinez against Lecce on August 26.
