Inter continue to cash in on their championship winning academy side with the Davide Bettella being the latest Primavera player to be sold.
The 18-year-old defender central defender is moving to Atalanta for €7m, a move that will bring Alessandro Bastoni to the Meazza ahead of schedule. Inter have reportedly included an option to buy bqck Bettella at a later date.
As part of the agreement, Atalanta will hand 19-year-old Bastoni over to Inter ahead of schedule. Inter already bought Bastoni for €8m in August 2017 and left him on loan in Bergamo for two years.
It’s still unlikely Bastoni will remain at San Siro, as he would be loaned out to SPAL or Sassuolo.
Inter have high expectations for Bastoni who has been described as ‘the new Mattia Caldara’. He has been the captain of the Italian U18 side and cost Inter €10m last summer.
Former Inter chief Walter Sabatini is convinced by the talent inside the club’s academy, but he believes that cashing in on the youth team champions is the right thing to do.
“The youth team really does represent the heritage of the business, of Inter and of Suning,” Sabatini told FCInter1908.it.
“I am very happy for the lads, especially as this success isn’t just for them, but produce revenue, because the players who win are always more appetising on the transfer market.
“Inter need to cash in, so my compliments to the lads and everyone at Inter who contributed to this success. I am no longer there, but I expect these players will be sold to raise funds and can be brought back with options and clauses.”
Joining Bettella in leaving Inter this summer will be Nicolò Zaniolo who reportedly been included in a deal for Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan, while Ionut Radu and Xian Emmers are expected to move to Genoa in a €10m deal.
