Inter have sent Joao Mario to Lokomotiv Moscow on a season-long loan with an €18m option to buy. The Russian side will reportedly pick up 100% of Joao Mario’s wages.
The 26-year-old was presented by his new club on Tuesday evening and had this to say at his introduction.
“I’m very happy to join Lokomotiv,” remarked the midfielder.
“I know this is a great club. They’ve signed many famous and experienced players.
“I asked [Manuel] Fernandes and Eder about Lokomotiv when we played for the Portuguese national team.
“I consulted Eder before the transfer. He told me Lokomotiv were a good team with a wonderful atmosphere.
“Their participation in the Champions League is also an important factor.”
Inter way overpaid for Joao Mario in 2016 when they gave Sporting €45m for the midfielder who had just helped Portugal win Euro 2016.
But he never really settled in Italy, and he made only 69 competitive appearances across three seasons for Inter, scoring four goals.
