Romelu Lukaku has taken less games than the great Ronaldo to score his first 20 goals at Inter. The new King of Milan reached the tally in 29 games after a scintillating start to life at Inter.
His goalscoring record is better than number of prolific marksmen who turned out for Inter, including Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo.
The Brazilian made a world record transfer from PSV to Inter in 1997 and started in superb fashion with 20 goals in his first 31 games for the club.
Years later, his compatriot Adriano would take 37 games to notch 20 goals – the same time it took Argentine duo Rodrigo Palacio and Diego Milito.
List in full:
- Romelu Lukaku – 29 games
- Ronaldo – 31 games
- Ruben Sosa – 31 games
- Adriano – 37 games
- Diego Milito – 37 games
- Rodrigo Palacio – 37 games
- Christian Vieri – 38 games
- Mauro Icardi – 39 games
Lukaku scored his 21st goal for the club in the Milan derby at the weekend, heading home Victor Moses’ cross in stoppage time to seal a stunning comeback 4-2 victory for Antonio Conte’s side.
He then proceeded to take his shirt off and hang it from the corner flag, taking to social media following the game and tweeting ‘There’s a new king in town’.
Reflecting on the comeback, which sees Inter top Serie A following Juventus’ defeat to Hellas Verona, Lukaku told Sky Sport Italia:
“I think that everyone has seen this team’s mentality, we never give up and we’re always looking to win.
“I’m here to win and my only aim is to help the team get results.
“I want to thank all of the fans, my team-mates, Mister [Antonio] Conte and all of his backroom staff for the support that they’re giving me.”
