Nothing like showing your employer that you are a person in demand and that you have options. That seems to be the philosophy of Mauro Icardi’s wife/agent Wanda Nara, who is reportedly back in London for a second visit with Arsenal who are in desperate need of a striker of Icardi’s class.
The timing of the visit is designed to put maximum pressure on Inter to give their captain a new deal, as Inter and Wanda are scheduled to open contract negotiations on Friday.
Inter have stated time and time again this summer that they will not sell Icardi, and have turned down over €50 million for the striker.
But after spending €22 million on winger Antonio Candreva this week, Inter need to sell someone to balance the books and a €65m offer from Napoli or Arsenal could be difficult to turn down.
For his part, Icardi has said that he wants to remain at Inter, but with both Arsenal and Napoli offering to more than double his wages, there is a huge difference between what Inter can afford to pay him versus what Napoli or Arsenal can.
The Icardi transfer saga impacted the USA tour and with less than three weeks until the season opens, Inter’s worst nightmare would be for Icardi to be sold too late in the transfer window for the club to find a suitable replacement. As a result Inter would be forced to spend the first half of the season with Palacio and Jovetic as Roberto Mancini’s two striking options.
