Inter’s failure to beat PSV on Tuesday and qualify for the Champions League knockout stages has reportedly not gone down well in China.
According to Corriere della Sera, playing in the Europa League instead of the Champions League will cost Inter at least €17m. Money that the club needs in order to escape from Financial Fair Play purgatory.
From our Twitter feed, it is clear that Inter fans blamed Luciano Spalletti for the club’s inability to progress in the Champions League and apparently that feeling is shared by Suning.
The Zhang family are said to be very disappointed by the team’s performance and a hard look is being taken at whether Spalletti is really the man to take Inter to the next level.
Inter have no plans to make a managerial change during the season, but the summer is a completely different manner.
New Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has no ties to Spalletti and he has former Juventus and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte on top of his wish-list with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone next in line.
Spalletti’s future will be decided in the coming months, and it will probably take a top three finish and a Coppa Italia cup final appearance to convince Suning to bring him back.
