Pazzini Missed A Last Minute Penalty As Inter Loses

by David on December 4, 2011

Tough 1-0 loss for Inter against Udinese today in which Giampaolo Pazzini missed a chance to equalise in the final minute, but he slipped as he kicked the ball and sent the ball into the stands.

The defeat was Inter’s sixth of the season and they are now 13 points behind joint leaders Udinese and AC Milan.

This was a feisty match in which one player from each side was sent off and Udinese missed a penalty also.

I thought Inter were a little naive in the tactics today. It was pretty clear from the start of the game that Udinese’s game plan was to hit Inter on the counter-attack. Throughout the game, Udinese created chance after chance on the counter-attack and Inter never adjusted.

And it was from a counter-attack in the 73rd minute that Udinese went ahead. Kwadwo Asamoah clipped a through ball over the top of an Inter defence and substitute Antonio Floro Flores laid the ball off for Isla, who beats Cesar with a clinical finish

Then with five minutes to go, this game boiled over. First Zanetti fouled Kwadwo Asamoah inside the Inter penalty box and was sent off and Udinese were awarded a penalty.

But Julio Cesar dived the right way to make a great save to deny Di Natale and I started to think that maybe Inter could rescue something from this game.

And they should have, Only a minute later, Inter were also awarded a penalty when Ferronetti brought down Diego Milito. Unfortunately Pazzini But Pazzini crucially slipped as he stepped up to take the spot kick, and subsequently ballooned his effort over the crossbar.

So tough loss for Inter, who are now 12 points from third place at that final Champions League spot. That is a lot of points to make up,

What did you think of the game today?
